It's not just my neck, pain shoots down my arm, i can't lift anything, not
even a cup of coffee. I tried ice, heat, drugs, gave it the finger, NOTHING
helps. pretty much gave up on trying to get all the way dressed. this is so
stupid.

I'm having similar problems lately. At first I thought it was just an off-shoot of one of my other medical issues, but it's persisting and I'm now thinking I need to see a doctor about it.

I'm really hoping that I'm just in the habit of sleeping in a bad position or something. :[

Maybe we should both see doctors. Good luck.

Trapped nerve, frozen shoulder, two very possible causes.
However, have you pulled any muscle in your back in recent memory, anywhere?
Although you think the back pain is subsiding, what you are most likely doing is altering your posture to compensate for it, i.e. walking differently to make it more comfortable. Eventually you just shift the pain to somewhere else.

I've done it, believe me, it's not funny, it's excruciatingly painful too.

Heat, ice and rest are the best remedies (along with pain killers). Be careful with the meds, I took too much codeine phosphate for a few weeks, it makes you really nauseous.

If all else fails, see your doc and get referred to an osteopath.

That's exactly the kind of thing chiropractors are really good at fixing. I had a pinched nerve in my leg while pregnant with one son, and a chiropractor helped tremendously where my other doctors just shrugged.

I've always found g.p's useless with this kind of thing. You need to find a good sports physiotherapist sounds like a trapped nerve.

I used to have neck problems, it actually was due to my weight said my doctors.

By damn, I lost a bunch of weight and my back and neck pain went away seemingly in correlation.

I was married.. but that was more than a pain in the neck.. that made my soul hurt.

I agree re G P s being useless with this kind of thing
I have just been through 6 weeks of agony after tearing the muscle ,rotary cuff ,large muscle in shoulder
I have never known pain like it ......agony !
My first visit to the G P she told me to take couple of paracetamol !
Which didnt even touch on the pain
For about 5 weeks now ive been taking codeine phosphate
In the first week i was taking up to 10 a day
,the pain was so severe !
I really do sympathize with anyone suffering with pain in their neck /shoulder
I swear it absolutely floored me :tears:

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the internet. It's a symptom of my deep rooted desperate desire to be Gregory House, MD, warts and all.

For starters, you do not have lupus. I'm 100% positive about that.

There are numerous causes of neck pain that radiates to the arm. But here's one way that you perhaps could narrow the possibilities. Take a look at this picture:

If your pain extends to a specific colored area(s), you likely have nerve involvement in the corresponding disc area. If this is true, you will want to get a referral to an orthopedist (preferable) or an osteopathist as soon as possible especially since your other treatment modalities have been ineffective.

But even if you do have the pain in those specific areas, it doesn't necessarily mean you have nerve involvement. You could have other causes even psychological as difficult as that may seem to be.

If it turns out that an individual does have nerve involvement, it's preferred that individual undergoes incremental steps. Heat/ice, meds, physical therapy, electrical stimulation, epidural injections, and then if all else fails, there's surgery. Above all, go get it checked out by a specialist.

Re weight: As stated above, weight loss can do wonders in relieving pain related to orthopedic impairments.

Re chiropractors: I know people who swear by them, and that's also evident by at least one person here. But frankly, I would avoid them. First of all, the basis of their practice is unproven. Second, if you have nerve involvement, manipulation is not advisable. Third, if you do have a condition that necessitates medications and/or surgery, chiropractors can't do a thing for you, which means that your options are vastly limited by going to a chiropractor.

Good luck
