Because they want a higher standard of living. Not really anything to do with values. People used to talk a lot about "universal values": everyone longs to be "free" and whatnot. But really, there are no universal values. What is universal is a desire to live in a wealthy and technologically advanced nation.

If anything, mass immigration must necessarily require an erosion of Enlightenment values: curbs on free speech to stop the spread of "hate", loss of privacy from the emerging surveillance state that is needed to protect the people from imported terror threats, loss of freedom of association, etc.

There are some people who might come to the West because the are some kind of radical and want to say or do things that can not be said or done in their home country but most people are just coming for the air conditioning.
