What is currently your favorite television show(s)?

I am trying not to watch Luther. Let's face it; it's gory, it's gruesome, but I keep coming back for more.
its not gory or gruesome in the slightest, what are you talking about?! i cant watch gore, and i had no problem with luther, it's great. it should be said that i had only initially watched it because someone told me i remind them of alice morgan *smug* (personality-wise that is, i dont look like her waaaaah), but i was glad i did. i wish they would make more episodes. netflix boasted of having 'new episodes!' but it was just a paltry two.

Right, I forgot you glorify serial killers and think Ted Bundy was a looker.

Alice was described as someone who earned her masters in philosophy at age 18? Are you seriously comparing yourself to her? Your ego is the size of a planet.
lol, no i said someone else said i reminded them of her, or she of me. and like i said, i imagine it was only personality-wise (although i admit, i am super smart). personally i can see it a bit. but you dont know me, so you wouldnt know in which way. but like when she says to luther something like "ive concluded my investigation, i think i got the right man"--that's totally me.

Alice seems very cold and calculating, not to mention pretentious. Is it how you would describe yourself as well?

Magic cities second season is for sure a little bit spotty with the writing but still pretty good. Hope to see the movie

Scott and Bailey. It's filmed in Manchester and it gives you a pretty good idea what the city looks like (if you've never been there). Also, there are tons of geographical references to places Morrissey mentioned before one way or another. Before that I watched Silk (main character likes Joy Division) and before that Broadchurch and Happy Valley. Oh, the British crime dramas are the best. I am totally addicted.
I have to watch it with the subtitles though. The people in Manchester talk funny.
jack taylor is also excellent!
'last tango in halifax' is also pretty good. i mean, it's not a crime drama and you have to put up with a pair of tedious fuddy-duddies, but it's still worth watching on the whole. it's got a great cast with sarah lancashire from happy valley (love her!) and the amazing nicola walker (who had a guest appearance on scott & bailey) and it was created by sally wainwright who was also responsible for happy valley and scott & bailey.
ooh, also line of duty is very very good!

Currently hooked on The Hour. Feast for they eyes just for the costumes alone, never mind the political issues of the 50s.

Peaky blinders season three

Halt and catch fire season two

Dick van dyke all

Magic city both seasons

Bobs burgers all

Need more narcos

Gomorrah just finished season 2 on Sky Atlantic. It is a fantastic gritty drama series about the criminal underbelly of Naples in Italy. Makes The Sopranos and The Wire look like The Brady Bunch. It is in Italian with English subtitles but this should not put anyone off watching this excellent TV show.

I love Peaky Blinders as well, it's really insane!

Well I love a good crime drama, read from the criminal side and not a detective sop story, and the historical overtones are really neat to see. Set and direction cinematography are amazing. The third season was bit of a meditative one for me. I don't like large time jumps between seasons especially ones that have a lot of stuff happen off camera that need to be explained in dialogue and forced conversations that only happen to inform the viewer. I felt like the first episode of the third season fell victim to this. Also what's with bringing grace back out of nowhere and then killing her. Were they just trying to give tommy some haunting tragedy. Felt forced and rushed but him having a son was good addition I thought. The whole season was a bit less plot based as well with the story of the bombing robbery almost an after thought though I admit when he met Tatiana at the end I was surprised and amused. I like that everyone was kinda trying to adjust to a new place be it in there marriages religion and social status or in Michaels case his rise to full membership in the blinders and criminal status but it still felt very stalled in plot. I'm ok with that as long as it's just this season and it picks back up some but I don't like to see everyone so overly conflicted. after tommys conversation with Alfonse I'm hoping he won't be as much in season four. His speech at the end kinda made me think he wouldn't be as well. Season four I guess will be him getting him family out of prison and off the hook for the charges and what he'll have to do in order to bring that out. Maybe season five will be them in America with them being exiled as part of the bargain. I could have also done without a lot of the pointless sex scenes. Polls was terrible and a bit cringey and it just seemed like a lot of them were to drawn out for no reason other than to show nudity which gets old.

If you like that show try Magic city out. An American period show set in 1958 Miami about a man who built the best resort hotel on the beach but did it by giving the mob half ownership. Mob gets to be to much for him with there push to turn the hotel into a casino among other mob antics and the owner hatches a plan to push them out. Has historical overtones as well with the place and time but also with Castro taking over Cuba And the political financial fallout. Has a lot of great actors such as Danny Huston as well as a soprano actor the actor who played sonny corleone the godfather as well as the actor who played moe Greene from the godfather. You can see I'm great with names but it was a really good show

Ha archer just gets funnier and funnier. It's like sealab and arrested development had a baby with the Bourne series. It long running jokes and continuity are just fantastic

Sweet halt and catch fire got renewed for a third season which makes me happy. Amc is making good stuff these days. Starts soon to so it shouldn't be long before its up and streaming. Surprised no one here watches as its a. Set in the eighties and b. Is about tech

A question for Rifke.
I finished watching all the British crime dramas on Netflix. Do you have any suggestions? I would not bother you, but you SEEM to have the same taste in TV as I do. I am stuck right now.
Here is what I AM NOT interested in:
- American TV series/films
- Classic movies
- Country/Western of any kind
- Sci-fi
- Action
Thanks

oh goody, a question for me! not bothered at all! i dont know that i can offer many good suggestions though if you've seen all the british crime dramas already.
um let's see... have you tried wallander? it's with kurt branagh, but i think it's swedish or something. it's quite good, but it may take a while to get into it.
i know you said you dont like american series, but have you tried 'the killing'? it's very "unamerican" in the way it's made, more slow and contemplative--i think it's an adaptation of a swedish series--and i cannot recommend it enough! probably the best series i've seen. also, the netflix original "bloodline" is superb. american odyssey is also excellent, and stars the british actress anna friel.
other than, i dont really have any other suggestions. sorry! you could try 'the bridge". it's a swedish or danish production, it's alright, but personally i found it a bit too boring to keep watching.
i just see now that there's a new series on netflix called "nsu german history x" with the fantastic sebastien urzendowsky, so i'll probably give that a try. i dont know if that's your kind of thing or not.
