I have seen this comment many times used and directed at forum members. I have used it one time in an obvious and sarcastic way. But mostly, I see it used as a put down. A take issue with its sincerity though. What life are they talking about.? Who's life do they want them to get. If it is their life, what supporting attributes do they offer that shall be a prerequisite for it to measure to their life. Is it someone's, or any ones life other than the one they have? Or is it just the statement makers inability to accept another persons life as it is, quirks and all.
I'll say the root is generally the statement makers desire but inability to control others. Hence, the lack of their own control of themselves. Inability for them, like a mark of the weak. Synonym is powerlessness. That must feel awful.
