OK. So you either love ROTT or YATQ. But lets think about the gems of the bsides. Moz's bsides have always been full of hidden gems.
YATQ:
Dont Make Fun...Do not like the lyrics, but the song is fun 2.5/5
When you are Small...Good song 4/5
Teenage Dad...2/5
Munich...4.5/5 great song
Friday Mourning...4/5 I love this song
Never Played...4/5
Succession of People...2/5
I am 2 People...5/5 CLASSIC!
Mexico...could have been great 3/5 the live version is better
ROTT:
I knew I was next...3/5 OK song
Human Being...AGH! 1/5
Sweetie Pie...3/5 Depends. You love it or hate it. For me it is interesting..
Goodlooking man 2/5
If You Dont Like me...3.5/5 Nice one
Ganglord...5/5 classic
Christian Dior...2.5/5
Cover songs excluded.
So, where does that put me...
I find the ROTT bsides are very very hit and miss, and not as catchy or easy to enjoy. But that is how I also feel about ROTT
The issue when I listen to these songs, is the production is very difficult for me to listen to. As far as Glam influenced production goes, Ronson gets my vote everytime (production here not songs).
I went to LA 2 summers ago, and cruised in my convertible rental listenning to the deluxe YATQ...The Bsides were really memorable. Sadly, I feel that ROTT bsides will go the way of many of the Kill Uncle Bsides.
This to me is the biggest issue with Moz right now...his band does not have the depth of songs he has had in the past. There simply were not enough classic songs for this album, and definitely not enough classic singles.
So...YATQ the album and bsides wins for me...
