the most pathetic thing i've ever done...

first off, the washing machines at my uni are so crap. they charge you $1.00 a load and then they f***ing ruin your clothes. i am lazy so i usually wear only plain white tshirts and jeans. anyway, i did a load in which i put about 6 of my white tshirts. they all came out stained. they went in barely even soiled!

anyway, now that i've had my little rant, here's the pathetic bit. i decided to salvage one of the white shirts by writing smiths and morrissey song quotes all over, including the complete lyrics of "stop me if you think you've heard this one before." it's about half-way done and looks very artsy. VERY TIME-CONSUMING. i think i need therapy. tell me, is this as sad as i think it is?

It sucks having to share laundry facilities. You never know if the asshole before you did a load with bleach or dye. You've got inconsiderate neighbors! Shoot them, shoot them all

Sadder, in a 1986 fashion faux-pas sort of way.

Hiya! That sounds like an excellent idea (the writing on the t-shirt) but how do you do it legibly? Doesn't the t-shirt move about? Ha ha ha.

For me I think it would have to be "Last of the famous internationalplayboys". I just love that song!

It isn't a pathetic idea for the record... You sound sane to me!

Did the same thing with Levis in 1987!!

'Cept it was equally divided between Bauhaus and Smiths lyrics. Not easy for a 33 year-old to get away with wearing a shirt like that now, though

If you're only paying $1 per load to wash clothes, you're not doing that bad. I own a couple of apartment buildings, and I just put a laundry room in one of them. The cost was extremely high. I converted a $350-per-month unit into a laundry just to be nice to my tenants. That alone will cost me over $4k per year in lost rent. The cost of adding a laundry sink, tearing a hole in the wall for the dryer vent, closing off unused parts of the apartment, changing locks, etc. cost me another $2000. The machines themselves (one washer, one dryer) cost me $1250. I charge $1 to wash, $1 to dry. Those fees just about cover the cost of the electricity and the water, and *might* pay off the cost of the machines in about 3 years (if they don't need service before then). Plus I now have to keep an additional "common area" clean.

I know all that doesn't make much difference if you're strapped for cash and have a hard time paying to wash your stuff. Thanks for letting me rant!!

The Electrum Group. Hey, "The Smiths" was already taken! :)

I remember seeing someone in a club in Birmingham in about 1992 with..........

With a WHITE T SHIRT with "I Hate Pakis" scrawled with what looked like a biro!!

My MOM once wrecked about 5 of my best Smiths-Morrissey T shirts!!

Arrrggghhh

thank you!

er i basically cut a piece of cardboard, fit it inside the shirt so my permanent marker wouldnt bleed through. then i held the fabric taut as i wrote. it worked pretty well. a few spots are a bit sketchy, but it makes it look that much more artsy.

Re: Did the same thing with Levis in 1987!!

we pay 50 cents to dry our clothes, but it's usually more because the dryers only get your stuff half dry after the first go.

That's ok

Cheers for the info I might try one myself now. I've been thinking again and that I might go for "Disappointed" instead.

Such great lyrics "Don't talk to me, no, about people who are nice! Cos I have spent my whole life in RUINS because of people who are NICE!"

BTW What do you think of Southpaw?

i have that lyric from disappointed on my shirt! haha!

i love southpaw. i love everything morrissey ever did (with the possible exception of golden lights, and even that has started to grow on me). that being said, i understand why a lot of people dont dig southpaw so much. it is a little weird for morrissey - the whole foray into prog rock and it's so english - or morrissey's idea of english anyway. i think it's cool. normally i hate songs that are longer than 6 minutes, but "the teachers are afraid of the pupils" is really cool.

That is fantastic that you love that lyric too! It is such an excellent lyric. Move over Oscar!

Hey and you love Southpaw... yes it is very English and very daring, a whole concept album at the height of Britpop. I'm English by the way, Kent, the garden of england ha ha ha.

The last track "Southpaw" is so beautiful and the music is really interesting as well. Lyrically it is not as sharp but it's the music that it's all about. Stories and music, that's the idea... at least that's what I think.

"Goodnight, and thank you!"

the funniest thing i ever read about a morrissey lyric is from the "it may all end tomorrow" website. in the explanation of "i dont mind if you forget me" (which is a personal favourite of mine that is bitterly overlooked), it says moz "surely deserves the nobel prize [in poetry] for rhyming best wishes with suspicious." i couldnt agree more.

im wearing my shirt around school today and i'm getting a lot of odd looks. it's amusing since normally no one pays any attention to me. haha!

on the back, i've written "words by morrissey" just like it says in all the album sleeves of the smiths.

I've read that as well. "I don't mind if you forget me" is an odd one isn't it- very poppy I think. Ha ha, the hard rhymer! Move over Chuck D!!!

Glad to hear it! Sounds like a thing of beauty.

I like the "words by morrissey" thing. Very clever. I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

You'll have to wear it to a disco or something and chant "hang the dj"

He he he.

haha, the hang the dj line is on there too! as if i'd go to something as vile as a disco. besides, i cant dance.

im thinking moz would think one of two things upon seeing the shirt:

1) where is my royalty cheque? (haha - just kidding, mozzy baby!)

or

2) what a sad little person! unfortunately, i'm not kidding this time.
